It was easy to do. There are 9 screws you need to remove to get at the cabin air filter on the 2006 Subaru Forester. The instructions says 7 screws on top and 2 on the bottom. Though for the 2006 Forester, the instructions in the YTC box showing the screw location is off. Its actually on this 2006 Forester to be 5 Screw on top and 4 screws along the bottom. Other than that, once I got the cover off and pulled out the OEM filter, which was completely clogged and looked at its construction compared to TYC version, visually there was very very little difference and the filter material itself too. It fit perfectly. I did notice that in the TYC instructions it says have the arrow point down when inserted the filter, but the picture in the instructions shows their filter with the arrow marking on the plastic housing pointing up. When I pull out the original, it was also installed pointing up as well. So not sure what to make of it?
Anyway, installed took about 15 minutes, even with the screws taken out, make sure its all 9 screws, (5 top, and 4 along the bottom), you had to give it a little tug on the glove box housing to remove it. Once you do that, then remove the cover that leads to the filter compartment ( Note: you need to gently pull to loosen the two slip over clips and then slide the cover to the left a bit to remove it, then you can pull out and replace the filter with the new one.) Also its only a slightly bit tight space-wise because of some wiring/plastic piece that is jutting out a little on the right of the opening abit. Slight inconvenience only to pull out and put new one in like an ice cube tray.
Once installed, it works fine. My kids use to get a stuffed up nose in my car which I was suspecting my cabin air filter was clogged but not anymore now. I’m going to get more of these filters as the quality seems very comparable to the OEM filter at about have the cost for the filter alone.
Just wish that Subaru had design the access to the cabin air filter easier than removing 9 screws and the glove compartment.

As noted in other reviews, the number of screws holding in the mapbox (you keep gloves in there?) varies. On the 2008 Forester: 5 screws on the top and 2 on the bottom. Take out the bottom first, then the top to give it some support. Once you’ve got the screws out give it a light tug and wiggle to slide out the 2 pins on the right side. Reinstall the same way, with a bit of a wiggle to line up the screw holes. The left bottom screw had some trouble until I wiggled the box.
Also as previously noted, there is a big arrow on the side of the filter “UP” — ignore the part in the instructions about “the airflow arrow pointing down”. The instructions also read “03-06 Subaru Forester” but rest assured this part is identical to the 2008 original I removed.
Took perhaps 5 minutes to replace. The old filter was well clogged with lint and bits of leaf.

Will be ordering another one when needed, it’s less than 1/2 the cost of the Subaru Dealer’s price.
Got it promptly and it is the right filter for the Forester.

This is a great filter choice at half the cost of the OEM cabin air filter. Haven’t noticed any difference in filtration between the TYC and the OEM filter.

This filter works very well on our 2007 Forester. For half the cost, compared to OEM filter, you can’t go wrong.

This filter was inexpensive and now I know why. The original filter had a rigid square shape, while this one has no stuff structure and is rather floppy. The original had much more filtering material made up of many paper-like creases. This one feels more like foam, and much less of it to filter the air. I have to believe this one wont filter as well. I don’t care all that much, as no one has pollen allergies in the family. But if you really want a filter like the original, try a more expensive one.

I don’t know what the “real” ones go for these days, but this is the same quality and a good price.

Thanks to J. Vinopal for the instructions on the ’08 Subaru Forester cabin filter replacement. Seven screws – 5 on top, two on the bottom. I’m still having problems getting that lower left screw in tight. Will let my husband have a go at it when he gets home. Took me about 15 minutes except for that left lower screw. Thanks again!
